Yesterday I had a great session in ‘The Church’ with a few of my closest and best training partners. I wanted to say a few words about one of them in particular, Will Pace. I met Will a few years ago and he started training my son in Tae Kwon Do. We started training together in the gym. I never would have thought he would have become so integral to my success. He’s loyal, he motivates me, and above all else he reminds me who the f*ck I am when I forget. He’s always there to lend a hand and he’s always there to check me when I get out of line. He’s a good one and a true friend. We laughed, listened to some music and lifted some heavy ass weights. A good time was had by all.

Workout:

10-1 Safety Squat Ladder:

Do 10 reps at a light weight.

9 reps with a bit of weight added.

8 reps with a bit more weight added.

Etc until you get to 1 rep. By this point it should be HEAVY.

*If you don’t have a Safety Squat Bar then do regular Back Squats

Then:

10-1 Deadlift/ATP/Band Ladder:

Load up the ATP (Athletic Training Platform i.e. that devil machine in the picture), attach bands to the bar, load up the weight, and lift.

Do 10 reps at a light weight.

9 reps with a bit of weight added.

8 reps with a bit more weight added.

Etc until you get to 1 rep. By this point it should be HEAVY.

*If you don’t have an ATP then do plain banded Deadlifts. If you have no bands do sumo deadlifts.

Overall it was a great strength day. If you did this on your own I would expect it to take you an hour. These 10-1 ladders are one of my favorite ways to do strength training. Feel free to use the format with other exercises too (i.e Bench Press,  Strict Press, Front Squat, Etc). I use them all the time.

Note about the training : Day to day entries will change. Some entires will be workouts I have done that day, some entries will be workouts that people I train did that day. Some entries will be my favorite all time workouts or something I saw on the internet that I thought would be good for you to experience. Remember that because of the changing nature of the entries these workouts are not meant to be prescriptive. For example they aren’t necessarily written down with the intention of you following them precisely. Rather, they are meant to collectively build a resource that you can learn from. Hopefully you can implement some of these ideas and workouts into your own training in order to better your fitness.

Also note that I won’t be posting at the same time every day. If I workout early then it might get posted early. If I workout late then it might get posted late. If I am in  different time zone then hell, I don’t know what time it will show up. Just a head’s up. That said, I will do my best to get them to you in a timely fashion. You have my word on that but remember I don’t have an army of internet monkeys at my beck and call. I am doing this on my own…
